Team Tactics – Chameleon Disguise Tips & Tricks (Updated Feb. ’18) – Jay Solomon

Jay Solomon by Jay Solomon

A couple of sets have come out since my last update on good disguises for Chameleon, so it’s time for an update, with the full set list of X-Men Xavier’s School out.

Zombie Abraham Lincoln is on this list specifically because of his synergy with Doctor Octopus.

FOUR SCORE AND SEVEN YEARS AGO: Once per attack, when a friendly character’s attack roll result is 4 or 7, choose: after resolutions, remove an action token from the attacker -or- after resolutions, give the target an action token.

With Doctor Octopus’ ability to make 4 attacks in a turn, there will be plenty of opportunity to use this special power to hand out action tokens in addition to the normal damage. Even if Doctor Octopus misses, rolling a 4, this effect will still give the attack a useful effect.

This Grandmaster is a support piece with a lot of options, in addition to having very good ranged defenses thanks to the HOLOGRAPHIC PROJECTION trait. The ability to choose what support power you need for the turn brings versatility, while also not actually being a pick a power character and thus vulnerable to Darwin or Leech.

Jeanette is a potential disguise that’s not on this list for her top click. Like the What If Iron Man that I recommended in the last article, she’s a disguise that will be useful on other clicks, specifically 2 or 3. Running Shot and Pulse Wave with those stats is very potent, especially in the mid to late game.

One character giving a double use of Probability Control is great, especially in a format where ID cards aren’t available, such as in Limited.

Kirk is on this list to be played alongside Overdrive, to be carried, then make the Close Combat Expert free action attack, along with Empower from Overdrive.

Sulu is a bit of a questionable entry on this list, since, unlike Kirk, as worded, his power does not give a non-costed attack. However, if he is errata’d to work properly or if the judge at the event rules it, being able to carry then make the Blades/Claws/Fang attack can be useful, especially on a team using Overdrive.

Darwin is very situationally useful, so he’s perfect to go along with Chameleon. I also think that Sinister Syndicate teams are more suited for Limited, as is Darwin, with the lack of Surter to one-shot him with his Colossal Retaliation.

Chase Angel is another Disguise option that is very situational. If you can somehow pull off getting him into the game on click 6 to use his Attack special power, he can be useful. The rest of the dial is useful too, with good defenses along with potentially great stats thanks to the Revenge tokens.
