The first event of the new format, post-rotation is… just Jakeem, basically. Not much time has passed since the rotation, so most players brought what works, and that is Jakeem. Apex Insiders writer Paris Gordon played an optimal build (read about it here), which outlasted Josh Earnest in the Finals of a thrilling game, where Paris won by the slimmest of margins to win the Texas Regional. Congrats, Paris!
Analysis:

Ok, so Jakeem wins again. The field was full of the dude with the genie. New formats in the beginning will have what works from the previous format, and in this case, Jakeem. Despite having half of the Top 8 being Jakeem teams, the other 4 non-Jakeem teams show some promise. Jake played a Tom Kerr-style Teleporter team, Josh played similar version with Mephisto and Namor, Michael Hawkins opted for the Dr. Strange wall team, while Patrick played a Shredder team. It is interesting to note that even though Theme Teams have taken a hit with the rotation of ATAs, the 4 non-Jakeem teams are all Theme Teams. Whether or not this trend continues remains to be seen.
