PJ Bolin swarms the competition en route to his Super Qualifier win! Knocks off Apex Insiders writer Easton Brock in Finals

The second Super Qualifier of a busy ROC weekend featured another great venue with great competition.  Big Bang has always produced quality fields, with top finishers going on to perform well at other events.  This field was no different, as Team Fail Boat’s Derek Thompson, Patricia Lam, and Nick Peterson made the long drive to Kentucky.  The usual suspects were in attendance as well, with Apex Insider writer and Team Stratagem member Easton Brock playing a unique Iron Man team, while PJ Bolin played his Robots team.  This is the second event of the weekend that Team Phoenix Nest made their mark as Matt Greichunos followed up Wes Griffin’s 2nd Place finish with a 4th Place finish at Big Bang.  In the end, PJ was able to outlast Easton in a nailbiter to take home the plaque.

1st Place – PJ Bolin

Analysis:

No surprise here, Devil Dinosaur is in the Top 8.  This time, it was one of the creators, Derek Thompson, who piloted it to a 5th Place finish.  Swarm teams are definitely in, with two Ultron Drone teams in the Top 8, with PJ winning the whole thing.  Matt’s Skullship is something to look at as it is another piece that was once firmly in the metagame, but has fallen out of favor.  A Top 4 finish might change that.  There was one Quinjet here, with no Krang or Lex Luthor, but the return of the Midnight Sons to top play, with Kyle Cooney’s take on the archetype taking 3rd.  There are still some innovations as Easton Brock once again played something from the Civil War OP set to a high finish (2nd).  Then again, you might be able to randomly give him any pieces to play and he will probably make the cut.
