Clixed Off Army comes with full force as Daniel Powell wins the 2017 ROC World Cup!

Champion – Daniel Powell

The 2017 ROC World Cup has come and gone and we have a new Champion.  After 9 grueling Rounds on Sunday, Daniel Powell of Team Clixed Off Army was one of 3 teammates (Lane Miller and Kyle Cooney) into the Top 8 of the prestigious tournament.  He was the only one to come out of the event undefeated. Two Apex Insiders writers, Team World Champion and former U.S. National Champion Easton Brock and Adam Friedman, respectively, were in the Top 4. Former U.S. National Champion Kennie Pena as well as current U.S. National Champion Dustin Seeders rounded out the Top 8 in a star-studded affair.  It was Uni-minds all day, all the time, and in the end, it was Dan pulling out a 5 point win against the Prince of the ROC, Easton Brock.  Congratulations, Dan! 

Analysis:

Between Jakeem and Uni-mind, they made up 51 of 86 teams in the Main Event.  The Top 8 featured 6 Uni-mind and 1 Jakeem.  It was Uni-mind everywhere.  In a metagame where Jakeem ruled the format for a long time, Uni-mind seems to be the new king of the format.  There were still some innovations to be made as Kennie Pena made a valiant effort in thwarting the dreaded Eternal with his pog-generating, swarming Mistress Death team.  There were some Shredders and Doc/Sam Cap-type teams, but the top teams were just Uni-mind or Jakeem.  Until a new set comes out with answers or Wizkids does something about the stale metagame, design-wise, that we have had for months now, it looks like it will be one of these two figures dominating the metagame.
