During the same weekend as the various WKO Regional events were ocurring, there was a ROC Regional at Space Cadets in Oak Ridge North, Texas. Colt Baldridge won with the vaunted Kyle Rayner, paired with an Orange Power Battery. This marks Kyle’s return to the format and proved he is still relevant. The Clix-Men were also in attendance, as well as other Ragnarok players, so it was a tough field. With the rotation just around the corner, we see in this second massive Modern Age format the kind of power it can field, with Power Batteries and a full suite of ID Cards at each player’s disposal. Congratulations, Colt!
1st Place – Colt Baldridge
Analysis:
The metagame in Texas was slightly different than the one in Alabama. We see more tent-pole teams here, as 5 players opted to play that archetype. As with Alabama, Orange and Green Batteries were the choice of weapon, Resource-wise. We didn’t see any Indigo Batteries here as we did in Alabama, but the format still seems to be dominated by Power Batteries in general. We also see the very powerful Phoenix Force in use here, with 2 players opting go with that. It helps characters like Nick Fury gain Running Shot. We have also seen in the two events that ID Cards are playing a huge part in strategies, so expect more of that in the future. With less than 2 weeks left in the format before rotation, we should still see some innovation in the upcoming tournaments since this is such a large and unexplored format so far.
