King of the ROC, Howard Brock, is the 2017 Heroclix World Champion! Dustin Seeders wins U.S. Nationals!

The unthinkable occurred. The Director of the ROC, Howard Brock, has won both singles and team Worlds, as he piloted his Goblin King to a win, and led his Lucky Dice team to the Team portion of the event.  With a field full of Jakeem Thunder and Felix Faust and Goblin King, Howard navigated his way to a win, outlasting Phoenix Nest’s Matt Greichunos in the Finals.  Dustin Seeders, on the other hand, won U.S. Nationals the night before, beating out another Phoenix Nest standout, this time PJ Bolin (who played the team he wrote about beforehand), with Jakeem Thunder and Felix Faust; and wouldn’t you know it, Lucky Dice beat out Phoenix Nest in the Finals of Team Worlds.  What a weekend for both Howard Brock and Team Phoenix Nest!  Congratulations to all!

Analysis:

2017 World Champion Howard Brock

The more the metagame changes, the more it stays the same.  With the rotation, many thought the metagame would change a little bit.  Not so much.  Jakeem Thunder appeared in staggering numbers, and along with Goblin King, ruled the top tables all weekend long.  Hopefully with the new DC Elseworlds set, there will be a shake up in the format, but we won’t truly know until August, when the new rules kick in.
