The first stop in the Majestix Open Series circuit was in Chehalis, Washington, home of Strike Force 5. There was much hype leading up to this tournament as it was going to be the first look at the impact of TMNT 3, as well as our second look into the Modern Limited metagame. 26 players from all over the Pac-Northwest showed up and the field was strong. Jakeem was well-represented as well as Klarion and JSA Green Lantern. After five rounds of Swiss, the Top 8 consisted of a member from Brothers Prob and Strike Force 5 each, WKO winner Chip Barnett, and perennial contender David Ellis. After Cory Henry’s “Win-and-in” in the last round of Swiss (barely making the cut), he was able to pull out the upset victory over David Ellis, then knocking out returning top player Cameron McGee, then finally beating out a surging Jason Cramer (who himself had to win the last round of Swiss to get in) to claim his second Super Qualifier win in the Pacific Northwest.

Analysis:
Joker’s Wild has now firmly planted its feet in the format. Jakeem was everywhere, but it was somewhat a surprise to see a huge uptick in JSA Green Lantern. The 35pt free Barrier piece was seen at the top tables all day, wreaking havoc with his construct. Tent-poles were the majority of the metagame, as Mary Marvel, Krang, KC Flash, and even BvS Superman all at the top tables. TMNT 3: Shredder’s Return also made an impact, as Johnny Alvarado’s Shredder team was able to cut through the Swiss rounds before falling to a Krang. The much talked about JSA themed team finally materialized as a solid JSA squad piloted by Cameron McGee really took the field by surprise. The next stop on the circuit is in Chico, CA, so we will get to see the fallout from this event.
