Team Majestix and Apex Insiders Writer Kevin Afrooz wins the U.S. Cup!

Single-Elimination Bracket

The first ever ROC US Cup is in the books, and Team Majestix’s own Kevin Afrooz follows up his ROC California Regional win with a US Cup win.  Kevin piloted an unorthodox team that consisted of Mr. Mxyzptlk, Jean Grey, Frog-Man(!), Ultron Drones, and Atoms, backed up by the Avengers Round Table.  The competition was small, but tough, with Team Vegas in attendance, led by Roland Wellington and Dustin Hall (who both made Top 8), Strike Force 5 from Washington (Matt Peterson and Cory Henry made the Top 8), Team Metalab’s Jay Solomon (who finished 3rd), and Team Majestix newcomer Zach Tan (4th). In a field that was made up mostly of Krangs and Quinjet, Kevin was able to defeat Team Vegas’s own Carlos Munoz in the Finals to be the first ROC US Cup Champion.

Analysis:

Superior Foes of Spider-Man definitely has some impact on the metagame. We correctly predicted that 1/4 of the field would feature a figure from the new set.  The Finals saw Kevin play Frog Man to activate Mr. Mxy and Carlos have the SR Spider-Man as an ID Card Call In.  Dustin played Spider-Man Noir to a Top 8, and Jay Solomon had Thug on his team to fill out the Avengers Theme.  There were Devil Dinosaurs and Chameleons, and Overdrive in the field as well.  1/4 of the field was made up Quinjet and Krang.  There were no Lex Luthor or Mary Marvel teams.  It looks like, at least on the West Coast, Quinjet and Krang seem to be the dominant force in the metagame.
