There was a Super Mega Qualifier in Houston this past weekend. The format was 300pt Modern Age Limited and I played:
Mini Shredder
Claw Shredder
Peace Machine
Ironheart
Overdrive
Symbiote
The basic point of my team is to counter Barrier and Pick-A-Power pieces, specifically Uni-Mind and JW Green Lantern which were large in attendance at the Qualifier. My team is also made to allow me to deal damage to my opponent really quickly which is the sole purpose of Overdrive. With the Symbiote being on Claw Shredder it increases the mobility of my team extremely while reducing the mobility of my opponents. Lastly My team makes it very difficult for my opponent to score points due to the Shredder’s ability to come back to life with Peace Machine allowing them to take only 3 damage at a time, as well as Ironheart’s broken armor trait.
Qualifying Rounds
Round 1: Pool Captain and FF Penguin.
I won map roll and decided with the Underground map from Star Trek so Pool Captain would not be able to use that large range against me. My opponent miscalculated by one square and was not able to get his alpha strike off on me on his first turn so he just moved out and stayed there. I move up Claw to keep Pool Captain from running away. After my opponent missing breakaway a few times and me only making one hit so far he cleverly chose the Combat Reflexes word bubble. I started getting nervous now, Pool Captain still being on Invincible and I just can’t seem to hit then I notice the heavy object my opponent placed and had a light bulb moment like you see on cartoons. I used Peace Machine to TK the heavy object at my opponent and the dice gods had mercy on me as my attack hit and my opponent missed his Shape Change. Pool Captain now off his Invincible the game is basically over as the Shredders make quick work of him.
Result Win
Round 2: Uni-Mind at 275 dial with 5 Eternals. Paris Gordon
I won map roll again and decided to pick the Underground map again. My third turn of my match I decided to move my team up with overdrive basing Paris’s Uni-Mind with Claw Shredder and his Plasticity. Paris Perplexed up Attack, Defense, and his movement Hypersonic’d and hit Peace Machine then ran away. My opponent forgot about Ironheart and her Outwit which pretty much cost him the game right there with Claw Charging him and then getting shredded twice by Mini Shredder.
Result Win
Round 3: Nighthawk, Beta Ray Bill low dial, Green Arrow, and Lt. Kyle. Will Gordon.
I lost map roll and Will chose the neoprene map with special hindering terrain squares that could only be moved through if you had the actual Improved Movement: Hindering. Will got an opening shot off with his Green Arrow on Overdrive that I recovered from quickly. I took the fight to Beta Ray Bill since GA was all alone and could not hit me from range. My next turn I got Beta Ray Bill off of Impervious and just kept hitting with Ironheart Mini and Claw.
Result Win
Round 4: Gotham City themed team (low dial) KC Batman, Green Arrow, Bomb Batman, HAHA Joker, Robin, FF Penguin, TK piece, and Stormbreaker on GA.
There was not much to this team GA hit his first attack on Overdrive but didn’t hit the shredders so he used Probability Control and rolled snake eyes. After that it was pretty much over I went and dealt with Batman and GA really quickly, and picked off the rest.

Round 5: Jakeem, 2 Green Lanterns, and Al Jhor Dan Jake Cockrell
Jake won map and chose the Amusement Park map. My game against Jake was very relaxed, but also one of my more thought provoking games. Jake went and hid his team behind the elevation near the water. I kept Sidestepping my team up until claw had line of fire to the elevation and used Peace Machine to TK Claw to the elevation. Then, I moved Ironheart carrying Mini, so I could Outwit the Prob on Jakeem so I could hit with Claw Shredder. After, that the game sped up quickly and I ended up picking off Jake’s team after Jakeem died.
Single Elimination
Round 1: Julio Montanez, Nick Fury, Al Jhor Dan, Double GL, Symbiote, and Crowbar.
I had to play against two of my friends back to back which was a bummer. Julio won map and chose the Chemical Plant. When I got the chance I used Peace Machine to TK Ironheart to Outwit Fury’s damage power then attack. After hitting with Ironheart I moved the rest of my team up and prepared for my next turn. Next, turn I broke down a wall with Mini Shredder, then pinged the Lanterns and Charged with Claw pinging the Lanterns and attacking and killing one. After, that the game was pretty much over.
Result: Win.
Round 2: Paris Gordon 300 Uni-Mind.
I won map and chose the Underground map again. My game with Paris was pretty much the same as before except he did not Perplex up once so I just kept attacking until I knocked him off of Invincible and then shredded him.

Round 3: Luc Nguyen. Mini Shredder, Nighthawk Prime, Double Green Lanterns, Clone Shredder without Shark.
This round was really stressful for me, I over extended to get the first opening attack and damage off. Luc did really well and took advantage of that and killed Peace Machine and Overdrive. Later in the game Luc attacked Ironheart and I rolled a one on the first time which was really upsetting. After that I killed Clone and a Green Lantern which now tied us. I missed several attacks on Luc’s Mini Shredder with my Claw Shredder, I also missed the breakaway at the end of the game which would have allowed me to kill Green Lantern and prevent me from going to a click off with Luc. The judge ruled Shredders will get to come back for the click off and my Claw Shredder died at the same time as Luc’s Nighthawk Prime and last Green Lantern in the click off.
Result Win
That was it I finally won my first major tournament the first thing I did was run over and tell all the Clixmen the team I am apart of the result and they told me how proud of me they were followed up with several high fives and handshakes. I would not have been able to do as well as I did, without the 5 Clixmen and my friends at Sci- Fi Factory.
