Majestix $1K Event Coverage

The first ever Majestix Heroclix $1K Open Series is over and we have our first Modern Age Champion, and it’s 16-year old Jackson Rau.  With top players Dustin Hall and Roland Wellington, both of Team Vegas, and Karmell Rafisoyiman, Team Majestix players Albert Ganoa, Roel Sanchez, and Jackson Rau, and Jason Cruz of Game Empire (Pasadena), the Top 8 was poised to be a good one.  In the end, Jackson’s vaunted Quicktron team swept the tournament, not losing a game, going an astonishing 9-0 throughout the weekend!

The Modern Age metagame is very diverse at the moment, even with Martial Artists and Metrons running around, we saw plenty of other viable teams, with the Professor X teams becoming more and more popular in the format.  Superman made an impact as there were quite a few Supermans running around.  Double-based Captain America/Soldiers is another contender as are White Lantern Flash teams.  It was also the return of Shazadam as two builds made the Top 8.  It’s interesting to see what the Hulk set brings!

In other events, Tyler Vanorman and Dustin Hall, both of Team Vegas, won the 400-pt Golden Age and 500-pt Named Theme Team Silver Age events, respectively.  Tyler ran a Martial Artist killbox with feats like Ambush, Pummel, and Contingency Plan to go along with Nightcrawler and Captain America to win his event, while Dustin ran an X-Men Professor X killbox, with Warpaths and Gambits ready lying in wait as Nightcrawler brought in the prey to win his event.  Lastly, newcomer Justin Buerano proved that you don’t need a regular booster pack to win a Sealed event.  He was one of three players who bravely opted to go with 5 gravity feeds.  His Captain America feeds contained two Howling Commandos!  After opening a Cyborg Superman his team was set and was able to go undefeated to win the first ever Super Crossover Sealed.

The turnout was a good one.  There were over 75 players coming in and out throughout the weekend, which makes the event a success.  What’s even  better is there were many new players who started playing that weekend as our very own Arturo Vazquez built a 3-D map to run our Sentinel Scenario for new players and casual players alike.  It was a great weekend, everyone had a good time, and we look forward to our next event!
