Hello guys, gals and non binary pals….my name is Wes Summers, writing my another article for Majestix. This time we are gonna talk about the build that I played at the Clix Cup in Orlando Florida. The build I played was a +10 SCIENTIST THEME.
The build is the brainchild of George Massu, Matty G and myself. It originally was designed to combat the Secret Six meta. The engine revolves around having extended reach, combined with my choice of attack powers. Which should give the pilot a significant advantage over most of the builds that are out there. There are a few things that worth breaking down with this build. The high theme should allow you to win map in most matchups. This should allow you to shoot your opponent before they can punch you.
Dr. Claire Finn – Mobility is life, and the Yaphit pog allows the entire team to Sidestep. This is critical not only for offensive deployment, but defensive formations, as well as picking up objects.
Nathaniel Richards – The Scientist swiss army knife. This son of Mr. Fantastic and ancestor to Kang the Conqueror allows you to destroy an object to pick ANY standard Attack power. With Scarab being a popular play an object based strategy is tricky, but the combination with Yaphit allows us to pick them up and remove them from the field without great risks from the evil beetle. Remember that PsyBlast is passive, and you can stack powers in new and interesting ways.
Molecule Man – Molecule Man is a unique figure in the meta. He both allows you to prevent alpha strike strategies, and enables alpha strike strategies. He is in my opinion the single most important figure in Modern.
Valeria Richards – She is our only source of Perplex. She is tied for the most expensive figure on the team at 40pts. Her Perplex has a massive 8-Range and is a double Perplex. She also has limited pick a power. Which allows you to pick a 3rd source of TK and provides a tertiary attacker, in the mid-to-late game.
Mister Oz – In addition to Controlling your opponent’s reach and extending your own, he also allows a Prob on your alpha! Be sure to get him into position. The combination of the Flash and Mr. Oz allows for a TEN SQUARE TK! Reminds me of Infinity Challenge!
The Primary attackers are the twin High Evolutionaries and The Charge Flash. Combined with the deployment from Mister Oz and TK Flash we have more that full map reach, and Giganta is an effective retaliator. If necessary we can even Pulse Wave the back row Turn 1!
My only loss with this team (300 Modern) was against my teammate PJ Bolin. For 400 Silver I added DJ Doom a third Flash and an ID. I went undefeated and won the event!
This is a fun (and relatively cheap) team. And I hope y’all have fun picking it up!
