The second stop in the Majestix Open Series circuit was in Chico, California, home of Team T3. Team Majestix was also represented as Aaron Cantu and Kevin Afrooz made the trip. This was supposed to be a showcase of the most powerful archetypes in the format: Jakeem and Shredders. It didn’t disappoint. Both archetypes dominated the top tables all day, as well as in the Top 8. After 5 grueling rounds, Stephen Holland-Chang (of T3) was the lone 5-0 player and wasted no time getting into the Finals (after one of the best games of the day in the Semifinals against Keaton Green), where he met up with Aaron. Aaron’s unique take on the Jakeem team proved to be too much as the dual Jokers wreaked havoc and ran enough interference for Jakeem to come in and take the win in a hard fought Finals game. Congratulations to Aaron Cantu, the Chico Super Qualifier winner!
Analysis:
Well, it seems like the format will be all Jakeem and Shredder until we see what Deadpool brings next week, when it will be legal for tournament play. There are many different ways to go about playing Jakeem as he is so versatile. He is just low enough, point-wise, that you can fit in a couple of secondary attackers. Aaron opted for more support pieces that were hard to KO in the two Jokers. Stephen played him alongside Superman, while Dave Anthony combined him with Shredder. The Shredder archetype is strong and it will be interesting to see if there will be any more tweaks to the build. Red Son Wonder Woman and Nick Fury are still very good in this format, but are out-shined due to the newer pieces from newer sets. We can’t to see what Deadpool brings in a week, with the Title Character surely leading the way.

like to point out how cool the players were with each other in the video. Guys in my area have this crazy idea that competitive play is this super unforgiving got to be perfect to play thing when really its not.
even at the highest level of play people re-position, check ruling with judges and in general try not to be jerks. wish I could get more people to realize this!
