The fifth stop on the Majestix Open Series event brought us to Santa Clarita, California. It’s a new time and a new format as the new Ban List updates were in effect, with the Book of the Skull on the Ban List, and Jakeem Thunder coming off of it. In addition, this was the first event with Avengers Infinity in Majestix ROC Age! So, the format was diverse, to say the least. A good turnout, with 26 players making the brave foray into new ROC Age. Plenty of great and unique teams, with plenty of great players, but in the end, it was old veteran Clay Wood, and an old staple, the Quinjet that took home the top spot! Congratulations, Clay, see you in December at the Invitational!
Analysis:
1st Place – Clay Wood
What a great time to play in this format. With the new changes and new set, the format is ripe for innovation. We had 8 different archetypes in the Top 8, which is amazing, and a testament to the health of the format. Clay brought back the Quinjet, with his unique take on it, utilizing new Avengers pieces to make a formidable themed team. Emilio brought the Power Plant again, but this time with a cool trick in Faust and his 3 Attack dice. That made for some nice Disintegration Beam hits throughout the tournament (I believe he disintegrated 4 Resources in 8 total rounds). Tent-pole is alive and well in this new format, with Tony’s KC Flash/Sinestro Battery team and Alonzo’s Goblin King/Infinity Gauntlet team making the cut. Undying is a thing as well with Michael’s team, while Shriek and Slate round out the Top 8. So far, however, the format is pointed to Lydea Mallor as a great counter to Resources. There were a few Monster-themed teams out there utilizing the old staple. There is an extended break until the end of July, so it will be interesting to see how the format evolves from now until San Diego.
