Majestix Open Series Rankings – Breakdown – Adam Friedman

Adam Friedman by Adam Friedman

So, it’s the end of the year. That means it is also the end of the Majestix Open Series 2020 season, and it’s time to look back at the year….. With statistics!

Well, more stats anyway.

For instance did you know?

Total Events Run: 64!

Total Points Earned: 1854!  That is more than FOUR TENS! Cake for

Unique Players: 106 (this might be lower, as it turns out someone messed with the names and didn’t tell me it was a joke. I don’t know if I found them all!)

Total Entries: 608! That…. Is surprisingly about what I would expect since the most common event is roughly 8 participants!

Biggest event: Online Limited Qualifier at 44 players!

For your reading pleasure I have compiled various stats to shout out to the various members of our community in commemoration of the end of the year.

Without further ado I’ll start with arguably the most important:

2020 Player of the Year: Steve DiCarlo at 166 Player points!

Truly an impressive achievement worthy of praise. And also with prizes, I am told!

With that out of the way the remaining categories are more for fun and enjoyment and in some cases arbitrarily decided on how to judge them so as to be interesting. Where how something is calculated isn’t obvious from the title I will provide the calculation in parenthesis.

Most efficient player (Best ratio of points divided by events): Diego Bermudez! With 23 points across just two events, he manages first place with an impressive ratio of 11.5 points per event!

Most Events Played: Robert Gallagher! At 51 events he just barely edges out Jose Barragan’s 50 total events. Hey, Jose, better luck next time!

Unified Winningest Player (Most First Place Wins + Most points obtained from First Place Wins): Steve Dicarlo! Normally first place win count and points won from first place would be two separate categories, but Steve won them both! Congrats on your continuous success!

Event-iest Location (most events run from a particular venue): Online! At a staggering 53 events, Online ran more events than all the other contenders combined! Shout outs to Newark, California for managing four events in 2020 for second place!

Most popular event: MOCs! At a whopping 51 events handing out roughly half of all points, MOCs were far and away the most popular event! Not that that is surprising, just fun to note!

Most successful petitions for Ban/Errata: Team PJ/Adam Friedman, with a record 3 elements forced out of the format this season despite all of them being legal throughout the entirety of the 2019 season!

Biggest Loser (most events earning only a measly 1 point): Jose Barragan with 29 single-point events. Ouch! Hey, Jose, better luck next time! Honorable mention to Craig Landers at 26

Unified Endboss of the year (most second places): Robert Gallagher with 10 second place finishes and 48 points from second place finishes! Nobody guards the princess from the plumber like you, buddy! Honorable mention to Paul Cote who earned an amazing 45 points from second place finishes despite only getting six second place finishes!

Bronziest Bae (Most Third place finishes): Tie! Congrats to Steve DiCarlo and Robert Gallagher at 7 each!

Bronziest Bae (most points earned from third place finishes): Tony Rodriguez at a staggering 40 points!

Unified Fourthiest Fam (most Fourth place finishes): Jose Barragan! Dominating this category with 9 finishes and 31 points for the unified fourth-placingest record of 2020! Honorable mention Richard Medina who earned 27 points from fourth place finishes!

Most Obnoxious Bookkeeping (most times I had to rerun numbers because I had to combine different spellings of names): Jesse M Cote! I don’t know what the count is, but the fact that sometimes you have a middle initial and sometimes don’t really messed up counts during the first half of the year! Honorable mention to Joe Alves, who might actually be the winner, but I didn’t keep good statistics on this!

Coolest name: Van Van Tassel! If it turns out that this is another case like Brienne of Tarth where someone reported a name wrong, I’m gonna be really sad!

Most Common First Name: Tied between Michael and David! Swank, Smith, P, Braudrick, and Bratcher for the former, and Gaffney, Ellis, Creighton, Colon, and Cobian for the latter!

Nestiest Phoenix (highest placing member of Phoenix nest amongst those who I remembered were part of the team): George Massu! At 13th place overall and 47 total points, George was the best from the nest! (at least if I didn’t miss anyone ranked higher because I forgot they were on the team!).

Best Pun of 2020: Anthony Barnstable! I don’t know what it was, but I assure you he deserves this plaudit!

I hope you all had a great 2020 Clix season, and I know I did! Hopefully we’ll actually get to meet in person in 2021 and have an even better time!

Thank you all and happy new year!
