Map Overview – Perfection – Jeff Bullard

by Jeff Bullard

Welcome back to another Majestix map review. This time we are looking at the “Perfection” map. The map is currently winnable in the weekly MOCs. “Perfection” is a great outdoor map. The asymmetrical map design gives each player an advantage whether they win or lose the map roll. The map has a realistic terrain layout to make for a great strategic game. Most importantly how does this map fit into the Bronze Age format?

The “Perfection” map offers two standard size starting zones 2×12 squares centered on opposite sides. From there the terrain varies depending on which starting are you have. On the Water Tower side, you have the additional Elevated terrain from the Water Tower. You also get the Blocking terrain from the Tractor, accompanied by the Elevated terrain of the trailer attached to the tractor. This creates a nice little nook to use as cover as you advance towards your opponent. On the opposite side, you have the various rocks to use as coverage along with the Elevation change that they offer. The rock side also provides more Hindering terrain to help those with Stealth and against opponents that do not have Improved Targeting through Hindering. The main building sets one square closer to the Water Tower side. The roof of the building offers more Blocking Terrain to use as cover as you advance toward your opponent.

Strategically the battle will either play out on the roof or the ground. The roof offers great protection from ranged attacks from a lower elevation and will draw your opponent up and into a closer combat fight. On the ground, the middle is open except for a few squares of Hindering Terrain that allow for those long-range attacks. Giant and Colossal figures have a great advantage on this map as they can reach and see over most of the terrain. Also, they can move freely and are not limited to the ladders for the elevation changes. This is going to be a fun map to play on.

There are many tools in the Bronze Age format that can give you an advantage when playing on this map. The Phoenix Force gives you the Flight ability allowing you to traverse the terrain much easier. Some Relics that can help you are the Fragments themselves being played without the resource. The Legion of Super Heroes Flight Ring gives you the Wing Symbol. Two Hammers from Fear Itself can lend a hand navigating this map also. Skrin’s Hammer gives you Improved Movement: Ignored Elevated & Characters along with Charge, Toughness, and +2 attack modifier. The other hammer is Griethoth’s Hammer. This hammer gives you the Giant Symbol, Running Shot with a minimum range of 4 and +2 attack modifier. If you wanted to go more defensive you can play GOTG047b Thanosi at his 100pt line. He has a Trait that reads “[100 PTS] BUILT TO TEST MY FOES: KA-ZAR: Opposing characters within range can’t ignore terrain for movement purposes.” This Trait along with the Invisible Plane Terrain Dial can limit your opponent’s movement. I am sure there are few other tricks out there.

Overall, this will be a great addition to the Bronze Age map list. It adds another layer to choosing a map with the asymmetrical map style. The design and layout of the map lean towards a more strategic games. With anything in Bronze Age I am sure the players will find a way to make it work. Thanks for reading and do not forget to practice rolling your dice!
