Sideline:

Hello everyone! I’m excited to finally do a write up on my go-to team for the Majestix Bronze Age format. I, unfortunately, will not be attending the Majestix Series $1k this coming weekend so there is a chance you won’t get to see this fearsome team being played, but I will definitely be running this in the future. The brains behind this set up is Patrick Yapjoco and I am very thankful that he has given me so much advice throughout the years.

To start, I want to talk about the attackers from my team. I have two FF Michelangelo and one FF Leonardo. Most people are already aware of the TMNT Unplugged Fast Forces Turtles by now, but for those of you that aren’t, they have a wonderful trait that allows them to stay on the board to fight longer.

CONTINUE?:Michelangelo starts the game with a Quarter token. When Michelangelo would be KO’d, you may remove a Quarter token from any friendly character (including himself) and instead turn him to click #2. If you do, your opponent scores 25 points. Protected: Pulse Wave.”

With 3 Quarter tokens set on my turtles, I can revive one of them 3 times throughout the game and lose only 75pts in doing so. Michelangelo also has a special foot power that provides Sidestep, IM: Ignores Characters, and (Flurry, but only when he has no actions tokens). Leo has a similar ability, but is a special attack power that gives him BCF and (Exploit Weakness, but only when he has no action tokens). Leo also has Leadership like any good leader should and this obviously helps with the Mikeys being able to Flurry non-stop. The downside to this group is that they are very soft with no roll-outs and only Toughness on a few clicks on Leo, but don’t worry, we have accounted for that with The Phoenix Force resource.

The next big help to the team is my favorite piece since I started playing when it was still legal in Modern, Nighthawk prime. This is a consideration on every single team I ever build for Bronze Age because his trait negates all stat increases to opposing characters unless they are adjacent to Nighthawk. It also makes the team Mind Control proof via the same trait.

THE PEOPLE MUST THINK FOR THEMSELVES: Friendly characters can’t be targeted by Mind Control. Opposing characters’ combat values can’t be increased unless they are adjacent to Nighthawk.”

What this means is that my attackers’ low Attack values are not as impeding as they would be against powers like Combat Reflexes or ES/D, and Perplexes to increase defense don’t work either.

Resources and Additional Game Elements

Okay, so here is what makes this relatively soft-shelled team so strong. With the addition of The Phoenix Force and Venom Harness, we are able to alleviate some of the weaknesses of the team and force my opponent to work harder to kill my low point characters.

The Phoenix Force is another of my favorites, because I tend to play lots of low point characters and this is a great way to buff them up. The way I utilize it here is by leaving the Colossus Fragment on the base itself which will provide Invulnerability to the whole team, minus Groot and his WWs. With only 1 Fragment on the base, I start with Charge, +1 Attack, and Toughness showing on the dial which is also usable by all assigned characters. As for who gets what, Mikey #1 gets Magik, Mikey #2 gets Namor, Leo gets Emma Frost, and Nighthawk gets Cyclops. Each of these Fragments grants access to the Flight ability (Not the Wing symbol) and Poison, with an additional power specific to the Fragment itself.

Now, on to the Venom Harness special object. I chose to include this after seeing how well it helped the new Daredevil. I typically place this on Mikey #1 with the Magik Fragment to utilize him as my first line of attack. For those not familiar with the Venom Harness, its effect is

EFFECT: FREE: This turn, this character can use Battle Fury and modifies its combat values except Range +1. At the end of your turn, roll a d6. 1-3: Deal this character 1 unavoidable damage.”

Not only do I boost my Mikey’s stats, but he can now use Battle Fury to negate Shape Change and when I send him in to do damage, he is a nice juicy target with Mystics coming from the Magik Fragment.

ID Call Ins

My ID set up has changed a lot with each iteration of the team and I am still tinkering with them now, but I am currently running Spider Woman, Wolverine, Iceman, Beast, and Leech. The main change here is the addition of Spider-Woman, who’s Inspiration gives Plasticity and ignores Super Senses when attacking.

Thanks for taking the time to read about this team that I am very excited to play moving forward. And a big thank you to everyone involved in the making and play testing of this team. Patrick, Michael, David, Hobbit, Alyssa, Emilio, Alonso, Sean, and numerous others have matched up against or aided in the creation and I am very thankful for the help. Good luck to anyone that is heading out this way to play in the Majestix Open Series $1k and if you haven’t seen the event yet, head over to Majestixccg.com and check it out. There will be tons of events going on and plenty of chance to roll some dice and win some figures.
