The Learning Curve – Defending the Alpha Strike – George Massu

Hello Apex Subscribers!

Hard to believe we’ve just finished the first round of WKO’s and we’re just about through the first quarter of 2019! With retirement announced by Wizkids early in the year we all find out that rotation won’t take place until (July 1) after U.S Nationals. Personally I am really supportive of this decision for two reasons, 1. I am very fond of the possibility of two different builds winning each event and 2. Nationals and Worlds are spaced nicely apart. However, now that we know Nationals will include figures that typically would be headed to greener pastures, our beloved comfort figures will see one more, big hoorah before retiring! This means we’ll still have the elements available to us that have dominated the meta scene while intertwining with our new releases such as Earth X, Captain Marvel and soon the DC Rebirth! To me the most glaring aspect of postponing retirement is the tired strategy of crossing the map turn one, getting in my face discharging a variety of attacks, ouch!! One of the best probabilities of winning a game in Heroclix is striking first and severely hindering your opponent’s ability to mount an effective assault. That’s why this strategy has been so popular for a couple years now and to see it refined to include Named Theme teams makes guarding against this strategy very, very difficult. In this article I’ll share with you how to increase your odds of defending and mounting a counter assault in order to shift momentum into your favor!
