The Player’s Pulse – -Hate to see you go, glad to watch you leave – Travis Roberts

by Travis Roberts

Welcome back to the Players Pulse the article that gives you the player and fans of the game a voice. I as always am Ares Edge breaking down what’s been the talk for the last 11 days now, POST ROTATION! So many great things have been rotated out and so many thorns and finally been pulled from our sides. This article breaks down what the people have said they will miss the most and what the are so damn happy to see finally get the hell out of the Modern and the meta.

First off is the leading vote getter for MISSED is none other than GREEN ARROW ID CARD! I don’t think it’s so much the ID card that will be missed here but the calling in of Elseworld chase Green Arrow. He came in late to the meta and made a huge splash especially with the new ruling to “ignores defensive powers”. It made a lot of people think twice to running uni mind teams as he posed a serious threat to a one shot kill if done correctly. BUT with the ID gone a lot of players have gone back to the building desk and trying to make a main squad Oli! It will be exciting to see what comes out of the Top 16 this years at Nationals.

The next pair did get votes that they would be “missed” BUT to be honest more hate speech and “Thank Gods” were posted seeing them go. The most NOT MISSED duo is of course Balls of Fury Nick and the Level 7 ID card. If you built a team…like any team this was the first thing your started with! You the sidelined a Hawkeye Chase, Hulk, and Nick. Even before the level 7 ID card was in play this guy was hated when he was main forced and entities and possessors were tossed on him to give him mobility. As mentioned before main squad Hawkeyes have been rumored so we will see how he pans out now that he can’t be called in off the bench.

The next MISSED character if you add both posts together was Kingdom Come Green Lantern. A super fun piece to play with some very special stipulations attached to him. The revision to the KC ability also helped here. He made good showings when played and I think it is more nostalgic reasonings for missed him as the entire Worlds Finest set was skillfully and masterfully put together with the assortment of KC pieces, Klarion the Witch-Boy, Mr. Nobody, Mary Marvel, and so many others from that set that got votes to be missed. It was prob one of the strongest showings for DC in a long time.

The next one is kinda bittersweet as they both are kind MISSED but also NOT MISSED at the same time as we say good bye the the Justice League Teleporter and Supreme Intelligence. For the first time in quite some time we will see a nationals event without a resource or possession figure on the map…at all! Sure someone could play the Punisher vehicle but does that really count? Both resources got their fair share of fame and play and it was finally time to see them put on the shelf and pass the torch to the next generation of Heroclix, which by the looks of it is going to be retaliators, special objects, and NEW ID cards.

But said best be the community, the most MISSED thing being rotated is the extra year of eligibility for the DC con exclusive ID cards that were taken too soon! Probably noted by a lot of players as one of the biggest gaffs that Wizkids has done in a while. Lex had plenty of options to be called in sure. Constantine most his modern option quick as did phantom stranger. Plastic man had a few options none of which were “good” compared to other cards. Captain cold had a few options as well that were rotated right away leaving one bad OP kid LE version to call in, side note they get rid of his ID card yet make a new WKO exclusive version for him. Which almost makes as much sense as the elephant in the room. The one and only SWAMP THING THAT NEVER EEEEVVVVVVERRRRRR has a modern playable call in at all. Literally a waste of plastic, “sigh”.

With all of these game elements that helped shape the meta and competitive pay scene so much finally gone it will be crazy to see what is played at this years nationals. Will Uni make his comeback, will the shredders slice their way to victory, will Sam cap parachute in on the competition, or will the X-Men swarm to dominance. Anything can happen this year and I can’t wait to see it. As always I am Ares Edge and may all of your rolls be critical hits.
