U.S. Nationals has concluded at Origins in Columbus, Ohio, and we have a new U.S. National Champion! Isaac Arnold-Berkovits, the child prodigy of Heroclix, and former ROC Cup Champion has laid claim to another major title in his young career. Isaac piloted an efficient, and balanced team, comprising of three main attackers, Mini Shredder, Sam Cap, and Starfox (chase), to the title. It was 6 rounds of Swiss (which you had to qualify through WKO or “grinders”), then followed by a single-elimination Top 16 playoff. The 4 Points Gaming standout defeated Team Pusheen’s Abdul Manickram in the final. Congrats, Isaac!
Analysis:
Champion – Isaac Arnold-Berkovits
The format looks healthy so far. With only a couple of events before this major event in North America, players were left guessing what the format would look like. As many expected, X-Men Themed Teams were the main call of the day (just look at how many SR Wolverines are the top 8, whether they be main force or sideline). Cosmic was the other main archetype, with Uni-Mind, Starfox, and Lockjaw leading the pack. Shredders were still a major force as well as Sam Cap. Plenty of Colossals were in play, and Abdul’s Unseen seemed to be a great counter to the colossal menace. WKO season is coming up, let’s see how the format evolves, with the addition of new ID cards, The Blackbird, and even TMNT 4 all being added the format soon.
