Dice Addiction is at it again with another Super Qualifier. The competition was tough as Apex Insiders writers Joshua Earnest and Paris Gordon were in attendance, as well as Team Phoenix Nest members Wes Griffin and Edward Shelton, and Uncanny Clix-Men member Zach Coffee and Agent of ICT member James Criss. It was a tough field indeed, but James Criss’s unique take on a Mr. Mxy team took home the win, utilizing Brimstone at his 75pt dial.
Analysis:
Mr. Mxy and Devil Dinosaur seem to be the top dogs in this format at the moment. The shift of the metagame to more swarm-type teams means more skirmish type of engagements. Mxy was a fringe piece before, but now he is fully in the metagame. Devil Dinosaur is still making waves as Paris played a version of him with his piece, Mephisto No Quinjets here, but there was a Krang and a Lex Luthor in the Top 8. Wes Griffin’s unique Superman build is something to look at, as it has been a while since the Shifting Focus piece has seen it’s time in the limelight.

Or…can your own Brimstone choose a square that pings Mxy and the Morlock for one first turn? Because that is really awesome if so…
How does the first list ensure Proteus does not jump to Jean? I see you can bring in Antman for one turn to make her small–but what about subsequent turns? How do you deal with the second turn when Mxy is still click one?
Or do you just not worry about it?
Very cool lists!
Once Proteus is on the map (utilising the Ant-Man card to make Jean tiny) you never have to check again to see if he will possess anyone.
Thanks for the reply. I do understand that, I played a similar list at States. But, more curious about the luck factor in this scenario:
First turn: Bring out Ant Man, make Jean tiny and check Proteus. Give Mxy and Morlock a token.
Second turn: How do you make Jean tiny if the Morlock is still alive for this turn?
After the second turn Mxy can take care of it with his damage power, but that second turn could screw you–unless I am missing something…
I ask because I like the idea, but have terrible, terrible luck with dice.
As I understand it, providing Morlock rolls Proteus before taking any actions, he would be protected from the Proteus damage by First Turn Immunity, no?
Morlock has 1st turn immunity to Proteus’s effect on turn 1, he then takes an action. At the beginning of turn 2 before you roll for Proteus’s effect you bring in Ant Man to make Jean tiny and if the Morlock dies to the roll Proteus comes out, if he doesn’t then Morlock pushes and Proteus comes out. It costs you 5 points for the ID card on top of Morlock but it is guaranteed Proteus, no luck involved (unless your opponent’s reach can hit Morlock before Proteus comes out)
Thank you guys, I didn’t realize First Turn Immunity protected him from Proteus here.
I just want to point out that aside from AOU003 Ant-man’s trait to change size, the Ant-man ID’s inspiration grants a free action to use tiny size as well.
