The Florida Regional has come and gone and Mr. Mxyzptlk and Frog Man are clearly the new hotness. Josafa Jesus and his crew from Miami took 3 spots in the Top 8, two of them utilizing Mr. Mxyzptlk. Using the template from Kevin Afrooz’s U.S. Cup-winning team, “Joe” was able to tweak it a bit more by using the underrated SR World’s Finest duo piece at 75pts. Joe had plenty of “tricks” that were on full display at this event, catching many players off-guard. Justino Jimenez of Team Majestix was Runner-Up with a different take on a Doctor Octopus team that teamed him up with three newcomers from the Superior Foes of Spider-Man set (Chameleon, Overdrive, Speed Demon) to make up a potent Sinister Syndicate team. Krang was back as well as 3 builds made the Top 8. With the top 2 teams being new(ish) teams, the format is ever-changing with new tech coming out seemingly every week.

Analysis:
Mr. Mxyzptlk seems to be the real deal, with 2 more spots in the Top 8. The template for some crazy abuse is now in place. Krang isn’t going anywhere, it’s just evolving. With new tech in Ant-Man, Krang teams don’t have to be aggressive at all now. Quinjet teams were still in full force, but the format has shifted to deal with the powerful Avenger plane, as no Quinjet builds made the Top 8. Nighthawk Prime, as predicted, is slotted perfectly in the format, and close combat-oriented teams will now have to be the answer to the powerful control piece. Superior Foes of Spider-Man has now made a clear impact on the format as Devil Dinosaur, Chameleon, Overdrive, Speed Demon, and Frog-Man are seeing play.
