One of the largest Modern Age events happened over the weekend in the midwest and it attracted 50 players to Chicago. Plenty of top players played in the first big event post-Beyond Amazing release, which also featured the new, smaller maps for the format. The metagame was pretty diverse, with many players opting to play the tried and true pieces of the format, but in the end, it was Ken Small who took home the victory, and the championship belt!
Analysis:
The format pretty much stayed the same, with many players eschewing Themed Teams for just playing the best of best pieces and cramming them onto one team. This is because Themed Teams and Map Roll aren’t as important as before. All the top pieces of the format saw plenty of play (Sakaarian Iron Man, Mad Jim, Scarlet Witch, Wonder Woman prime to name a few), with some new splashes of perhaps future staples (Iron Spider prime, World’s Finest). We got to see the first Mission Points team in the Top 8 as well. Let’s see how this event influences future events.
