Michael Smith gives Superman & Batman their shine by winning the Big Bang Regional in Kentucky!

Top 16 Single-Elimination Bracket

The first Regional of the season started with a bang (pun intended)!  Team Stratagem’s Michael Smith navigated his way through a field of 42 players from all over the region to claim his Regional win.  Michael played a new take on the new Shifting Focus Superman by adding the Trinity War Batman for added protection in the form of Stealth.  It was a field of Nick Fury, Ant-Man, Klarion, and Superman teams.  Apex Insider writer Easton Brock adds another impressive finish to his resume by his Top 4 placing.  The Finals featured Michael facing off against the Cincinnati Super Qualifier winner (and perennial Top Finisher) Jason Allen and his Mystical team which features Mary Marvel and Klarion.  Congratulations to Michael Smith, the winner of the first Regional of the season.

Analysis:

World’s Finest is really making an impact here.  The top two teams again were teams featuring World’s Finest figures.  We still see Nick Fury in the Top 16 in abundance, but his impact is lessening with each passing week as more and more players make new discoveries and come up with better plans against him.  Super Skrull still makes an appearance, but as you can see, it got knocked out of the Top 16.  There is a Metal Men theme team that made the Top 8, which is very exciting because the fan-favorite theme just showed that it can compete at the highest level.  Superman, Ant-Man, and Klarion seem to be the figures taking over slots in most teams, and we will see what they can bring when regular 300pt Modern Age comes around.
