New Rules, old story as Kevin Schaefer wins the Big Bang Regional… with Jakeem!

The first weekend of major events with the new rules, and it’s the same ol’ story.  Jakeem wins again.  Apparently, the new rules and power changes did not hurt the vaunted Jakeem in its initial outing with the new rules.  Kevin Schaefer played a very defensive Jakeem team with many roll-outs.  In a field full of top players (don’t let the low turnout fool you on the quality of play), Kevin outlasted everyone, including Team World Champion Easton Brock (and Apex Insiders writer), in the Finals, handing the star player his only loss in the tournament.  Easton was playing the team he wrote about here.  Congrats to Kevin Schaefer on his first Regional win!

Analysis:

Ok, so Jakeem wins again. Even though 4 of the Top 8 teams were Jakeem, the other 4 teams were all basically from the new Thor set.  3 Uni-Mind teams and 1 Odin the Destroyer team (a team that Apex Insiders writer PJ Bolin wrote about here)rounded out the Top 8.  It looks like Uni-Mind is the “Jakeem” of the new set, so it will be interesting to see if Uni-Mind has what it takes to dethrone the king, Jakeem.
