The first ever Canada Cup was a success. 31 players vied for to be the first ROC Canada Cup Champion. The entire Meta Lab crew, led by Jason Collins was in attendance. There was a lot of innovation as players are now getting the feel of the format and know what to expect. We see some of the format standard, but in the end it was Tom Kerr’s Mary Marvel team that brought home the title. He defeated teammate Jason Collins in the Finals, while other Meta Lab members Mike Payne and Jay Solomon finished 5th and 6th, respectively.
Canada Cup Champion – Tom Kerr
Analysis:
Canada is known for a lot of innovation and unique builds, and this was no exception. Tom played a unique Mary Marvel/Primehawk team with the Teleporter, while Trevor also played her. Although Mary Marvel isn’t anything new, she has not been played much at all in the format, so it’s nice to see the Marvel family member get back into the spotlight. We see two flavors of Quinjet, with Jason Collins opting for Patrick Yapjoco’s version while Jay Solomon played a unique Avengers Theme Quinjet. Dan Upham played George’s Lex build, and this team is really looking like it’s a staple as it has Top 8’d in the last 4 events. Two of the most unique builds is Mike White’s Avengers Theme, which he played with Sunfire Prime, Beast, and Jarvis (this showcased the power of Sunfire and Beast as you can see by his 3rd place finished) and Mike Payne’s double-Loki team (which is a different take on a “can’t see me” team).
