Top 8 Bracket

The third Super Qualifier from Dice Addiction this year brings a close to the 400pt Modern Age Limited format.  What a fitting way for it to end; with the two figures that many thought everyone should look to first: Super Skrull and Nick Fury.  Zach Coffee piloted the duo to another SQ win.  You can count on Dice Addiction to put on a good tournament and have a good turnout, even though it was only a couple of weeks notice.  They have that kind of player base.  Now we look forward to the first 300pt Modern Age tournament of the season when all eyes look to Alabama next week.

Analysis:

The format has been formed through many events, so it comes to no surprise that some players will run “net-teams.”  These are proven teams that can and have won tournaments.  With the game starting to really take a competitive approach, many players are starting to figure out the old saying, “if it ain’t broke, why fix it?”  You can see it by the 2nd place team, which is an exact copy (even Map selection) of Chris Pribanick’s 4th Place finish at the Majestix Regional just last week.  Top 8 finisher Matt Greichunos chose to play Kevin Afrooz’s Regional-winning list.  Zach chose to combine the two best pieces in the format: Nick Fury and Super Skrull.  There are still some innovation to be had in the format, but the tried and true archetypes are starting to dominate the metagame and are firmly on players’ radar.
