Majestix Open Series Qualifier News Update (Day 5-6)! – David Colon

by David “Mr. Clixso” Colon

Hey Everyone,

Double highlight day today! It has been such a great journey, we are highlighting two days of action. The amount of Heroclix games we’ve had is outstanding. The Majestix Qualifier pods are almost set and done. So, let’s get those highlights underway.

Pod F: Dylan Disney vs Paris Gordon

Dylan’s Robo-Penguin went all the way across the map and Pulse Waved Paris’s team with a Critical Hit! Wow! Luckily, Paris used Mr. Mxyzptlk dice to replace the critical hit so two of his colossals stay alive. Paris makes the Invisible Jet Colossal and brings over his team and Mr. Mxyzptlk uses his special Pulse Wave on Dylan’s team. Paris overwhelms Dylan’s team and takes the victory! The first two turns were vital in both teams trying to get the advantage.

Paris Gordon defeats Dylan Disney 300-145

Pod B: Steve DiCarlo vs. Emilio Gutierrez

With Emilio’s been a melee team, Steve comes in and starts the action. Steve swarms on the Mystiques and starts to ping down each of Emilio’s figures. The Widows Recruits and Living Hair pogs were the MVP in this game. Emilio goes for an all-in attack on Black Widow, needed to roll a ’10’ to tick down Black Widow. He tried twice at pinging down Black Widow but both were unsuccessful. It was an uphill battle for Emilio. Steve starts popping out more Recruits to Poison and attack on the Mystiques for the win.

Steve DiCarlo defeats Emilio Gutierrez 300-2

Pod J: Tom Shanabarger vs. George Massu

The stakes were high in this game because the winner advances to the single-elimination rounds. George’s placement of the Invisible Jet Terrain on the Labyrinth Map was key. George’s Suited Henchmen ticked up the Gamma Bomb and gave him more time to position his SHIELD team. Using Bill, Agent of AIM’s special, Tom comes back and knocks Bill out next turn with Title Batgirl. George’s Punisher War Machine strikes back with a shot on Batgirl, misses the first one, but gets the second shot off. After Tom brings in a Troubalert (Firestorm), he Energy Explodes George’s SHIELD team. It takes out Latverian Engineer but only hurts Sharon Carter. Once last round was called Tom was able to get to Steve Rogers to his last click, which triggered his Living Legend trait. Tom calls the game.

Punisher War Machine was able to knock out Chase Green Arrow and getting ahead on points.

George Massu defeats Tom Shanabarger 120-55

Pod E: Richard Medina vs Paul Cote

Paul’s Hawkeye takes the first two shots off Black Widow and Captain Marvel.  Paul Bat Signals Hawkeye back to his team. Richard comes back and punches with Chewie, missing the first attack but hits the second attack. Here comes a full-powered Vulture and Flurries the field and nearly wipes the board. Richard calls the match. Wow, Hawkeye and Vulture for the win!

Paul Cote defeats Richard Medina 300-3

Matches I was unable to watch:

PJ Bolin defeats Xander Musto

Justin Herrington defeats Jesse Cote 240-100

Cory Franklin defeats Justin Herrington 300-0

Robert Gallagher defeats Jesse Cote 190-75

Easton Brock defeats Adam Friedman 300-205

Pod H: Brian Estes vs. Julio Montanez

This was a Gamma Bomb vs Gamma Bomb game, but Julio has Bomb markers as well (from Anarky). This match was a positioning game to see who gets the edge in this one. Julio’s Magneto was able to take a shot on Giant-Girl, knocking her out. Brian comes back with his Black Widow’s Recruit to take down Dark Phoenix and Groot! Now it’s a game! Hawkeye comes in, hits Magneto, but fails to hit Mister Sinister! Julio rolls for his bomb markers and he only gets one out of five of the markers. Julio was able to ping down Black Widow, but she is a survivor. Brian then comes in with Hawkeye before the Gamma Bomb’s trigger. The Gamma Bomb finishes the game with a nuclear explosion clearing the field. The only survivor is Magneto! Julio wins. What a finish to the game!

Well, that does it for day five and six! Wow, what a fight to the finish this has been. So many players have made this Qualifier a strong success. So many diverse teams, tactics, and strategies! Thank you to everyone who made time to play online and have fun. Thank you again to Majestix’s Patrick Yapjoco for the opportunity to showcase my talent in given you guys these highlight articles, live matches, and live updates. As always: Remember, if you’re going to roll, you always roll a Critical Hit. Thanks, Everyone!
