Tournament Report – Arizona ROC States – Patrick Yapjoco

 by Patrick Yapjoco

It’s been a while since I have traveled to play in a ROC event, especially with everything that is going on right now.  Barely and places can even host events, let alone a ROC States event, where the expected number of players will be higher than normal.  Being out here in California, we can’t run any events (officially, at least), so it’s hard to get games in.  When we found out that Arizona was opening up and running their States event, we jumped on it the first chance we got.  My teammate, and resident badass, Alyssa McNeil booked everything and set it all up.  We planned to test and gather all that we needed so we would be prepared.  We then set up our base of operations at the store, invited many other players to come play/test/practice, theory-crafted, gathered data, discussed the meta, and just basically game-planned on what we expected to see.  Our conclusion was that we would see plenty of Black Widow/Cap Marvel teams, Jason Wyngarde/Vulture, and Robots (you know, the usual).  There would be an outside chance that we would see Spider-Family teams (especially 1776 teams), but with the set being so new, I didn’t think it would be enough time to gather the pieces for optimized teams, so even though we had that in our gauntlet, we didn’t fully expect to see it high numbers (maybe 1).
