Game 1:
Illuminati swap +4
Justin Hafford
Won map
Otherworld Caste

He swapped to full Juggernaut with support. Turn 1 I equip Reality Gem and send out the Multiple Men. I use a Cable clone to steal Remaker Ring. He equips Juggernaut with Ego Gem and has Power Gem and Time Gem from swapping out Illuminati figs. I go with Jubilee and attack his support and use Maggots to finish them off. His Jugs takes out a Maggot in one shot. I then spend the game attacking Juggernaut waiting for him to miss Impervious then whittle down to last click and eventually finish him off with a Cable clone. Won 300-50.

Game 2:
X-Men swap don’t remember the plus
Jasper Alontaga
Won map
Otherworld Castle

Turn 1 I equip Reality send out Multiple Men and use Cable clone to steal object. He puts up Barrier I think? I send out Jubilee to KO his Dark Phoenix and hit some support. Pixie carries over the Maggots and start whittling him down. He hits some figures and my next turn I retal with Dark Phoenix. It goes back and forth and time was called. I got the win 165-95

Game 3:
Diety Theme +6-7?
Jackson L
Won map
Otherworld Caste

I do my typical turn one and equip Reality and steal his Power Gem. He body blocks his Blackheart perfectly so I can’t snipe him with Jubilee so I decide to go for Giganta prime and I can’t remember what support. Maggots go and take out a green Proteus and damage the Scarab to click 3 which loses TK and the special Putwit power. His turn he sends out Blackheart to kill Dark Phoenix and tries to Regenerate Scarab and rolls a 1 which somehow he was on click 4 unsure when I got him there. So still no Outwit special and no TK. Next turn I use Professor X and Outwit Blackheart’s Leadership and base him with Multiple Man. He uses green Proteus to retal and get close to Blackheart so when I start attacking him he uses the garden trick and puts Barrier next to him. Luckily Multiple Man isn’t a standard figure so when he damaged Blackheart to STOP, no Barrier could be generated and the Maggots dropped the Poison pogs and took him out. Clean up after that. Won 300-30.

Game 4:
Robot theme +11
Aaron Morgan
Lost Map
The dreaded losing map. He takes me to Doom Castle with the map bonus on Master Mold. His turn 1 he equips and doesn’t do much else. I choose to go with Exodus and Bishop to help prevent the huge alpha coming. He uses Bastion and Mind Controls Cyke Sentinel and a Superman Robot. He sends them across and Cyke Sentinel shoots Exodus for 4 (5 with the special after effect) and then has Superman try and finish him off and whiffs with all the Probs we spent. Next turn Dark Phoenix retals and then triple attacks Master Mold and the two Mad Thinkers next to him so no Mastermind. I heal Exodus with X-Men TA and use him to Mind Control Cyke Sentinel and then he dies from Exodus’ special. I sent a Maggot across the map to Poison his Latverian Engineer pog and it was a slow fight after that and I couldn’t get Bastion. Won 240-40

Game 5:
Hellfire Swap +6
Wes Summers

The dreaded losing map….again! He chooses to go to Ancient Hold. I use Exodus and decide to take out Dark Phoenix and bring in Cypher and Bishop (whatever other fig to make it 3-3 swap). He lands on Exodus 2×2, Magneto from XRF, Emma Frost that chooses Improved Targeting, a Hellfire Guard, and Dark Phoenix. His first turn he moves up a bit and stays way back. I equip Reality and move up a bit. He does some advancing and I use a turn to Barrier with Cypher. He does his own Barrier and ends up killing a Multiple Man so I have to now be aggressive. I make a play to have Exodus go out and try to Mind Control Magneto with a 21-Defense (18-ESD and in rubble). I whiff hard. I then move up and try to body block. He can’t retal with Dark Phoenix but does kill another Multiple Man and Cypher I think? I decide to shoot Maggot across the map and do a suicide run to kill his Dark Phoenix with the Exploit pog. He does some Mind-Controlling and repositions and I use the next turn to Mind Control his Exodus who crit misses the attack, break away moves next to Maggot, takes the damage from Exodus, and then gets Poisoned from Maggot pog. Time was called. Won 105-60

Monster +11

Won map

This game was all about who wins map. Somehow I get it and go to Otherworld Castle. I use first turn to steal his Alchemical fire so that Scarab can’t give out fire tokens with his attacks. He does some Barrier and body blocks to hide Sky Tyrant. I sent out Jubilee who could see over Wendigo and eliminate Tyrant. I use Pixie/Maggot to go Poison and try to get the Wendigo…and whiffed. His next turn he makes Rookie and tries retal’ing on Jubilee to put a Wounded token on her and after all the Probs ends up missing. He has three misses and uses Black Vulcan to Poison Maggot off Prob. After he passes he realized he now can get retal’d by Dark Phoenix. I kill a bunch of stuff and heal a bunch. He tries attacking Jubilee again and missed. Clean up after that. Won 300-0.

Top 8:
Hellfire Swap +6
Wes Summers
Won map

So, this was a rematch and luckily I won map. I choose Otherworld Castle and have him swap before I do. He goes with Exodus 2×2, Magneto, Dark Phoenix, Hellfire Guard, Sage, and Blackheart. Luckily he didn’t go with Harry Leland. My turn one I equipped and moved out a couple Multiple Men bringing Jubilee to her heavy object and Perplex her D by 2. He moved up and uses Magneto to give everyone ESD and puts Sage out in the open. She makes it tough by limiting Perplex, Prob, AND Outwit to once per turn. So, Jubilee can only be a 12 and I can only Prob an attack once. So I decide to send out Pixie and Maggots first to Poison and kill her. I then use Jubilee to attack Exodus for 4. He sends Blackheart to kill Dark Phoenix. I then use Professor X to Outwit Leadership on Blackheart and base with Multiple Man. I was able to next turn use Jubilee and Maggots to kill Blackheart. Won 300-50.

Top 4:
X-Men +10
Adam Maciejewski
Won ma

This was a mirror match. Basically you win map you win. He rolls a 10 on map roll and I roll an 11. I choose to go to Otherworld Castle even though he has Jubilee on sideline. He swaps first and brings in Jubilee, Mimic, and a Maggot. I go with Jubilee Pixie and Bishop. Turn 1 I equip Reality Gem and send out a couple of Multiple Men. He picks Invincible for Mimic and body blocks Dark Phoenix with Iceman. I send Jubilee to be able to see Dark Phoenix and Cypher. I then use the one Maggot to go and try to ping some support. He tries using Mimic to go after Jubilee and she hits a clutch Shape Change. He kills Maggot and I then can retal with Dark Phoenix. His Jubilee lived and my Dark Phoenix healed to the 300 point starting line and I eventually was able to get past the Shape change and Cable clone got the last shot on Jubilee. Won 300-60.

Finals:
Non-Themed good stuff
Isaac AB
Won map

He was using Blackheart, Jason Wyngarde, Dark Phoenix, Hellfire Guard, Ch’p, and Felix Faust and we went to Otherworld Castle. Turn 1 I equip and use Multiple Man to bring up Jubilee and convert her to her click 7. Perplex her D to a 20 and sit on heavy object. Completely goofed on stealing an object. He sends out Jason to try and Mind Control Jubilee and she hits Shape Change. He then positions everyone around the Catcher’s Mitt and leaves Blackheart out in front. The bait I decided to take. I use Jubilee to sit outside of Faust’s special range negation and snipe Blackheart to first STOP and use Maggots to Poison and KO. His next turn he uses Jason to Mind Control chain my whole team, Dark Phoenix to retal, then costed attack, and Rookie to do his stuff. Both Maggots were dead, both Multiple Men were dead, and Dark Phoenix was dead. I used Jubilee to attack Rookie and Faust. He sets up so Jason always had two Guards next to him and gave them ESD with the Mitt. His second Rookie kept whiffing. He keeps re-positioning the squad. I am left with Jubilee on top click and two clones. Nobody has TTPC left. I attack with Jubilee 12 on Ch’p’s 20 and misses. He does re-positioning and Rookie whiffs Cables again. My last turn I go for broke and 12 on Ch’p’s 20 with no Probs either way….AND HIT! Time was called. We added up the points and I won 225-220. What a nail-biter.

This was such a fun experience. 2021 was filled with very little in person play and having a World’s Championship was not expected until Brad, Critical Clix, Majestix, and Clixed Off made it work. Every game was great. Players were awesome. Judges were spot on. Technical difficulties were handled properly. Take-aways: Themed is still super important. Even with the limit of +3, high theme is huge. Of the 9 games, I lost map twice and it was a huge difference in approach and picking who I swapped for. Thanks for reading this stupidly long post and I hope you enjoyed it!
