Tournament Report – Majestix GenCon Exclusives Event (Bronze) – Jose Barragan

Hello I’m Jose Barragan and this is my Tournament report for the Majestix GenCon Exclusives Bronze Age Limited event. 24 people attended with a lot of interesting teams. I wanted to play a Monster theme team for this event and thankfully couldn’t find my Galactic Guardian Mole Man, which resulted in me playing this sweet Secret Six team. The Secret Six is a very fun keyword with plenty to choose from but it has 2 Bronze pieces that make it that much better: the Gamma Bomb and Thug.

Sideline- Black Vulcan x4, Gorilla Grodd, Brainiac, Lex Luthor.

The team has good reach with the Scarabs being able to shoot through un-held objects and equipped characters; also having 6 or more Secret Six keyword members they can Outwit Safeguard and Protected. The Gamma Bomb is the key here because it can’t be moved, placed or destroyed and if the bomb ticks down to 1 , blocking and anything within 8 squares takes 3-damage. Through the Gamma Bomb they can Outwit colossal retals or just KO them right away on turn 2. The Commissioner has a power which lets him bring out the Rookie bystander, a giant-sized character with PD team ability and Prob. Pair that with Giganta prime and she can wildcard the PD team ability and the right positioning with the Scarabs they can shoot someone with a -2 defense. The Commissioner also equips the Reality Gem and is always adjacent to the Scarabs so they can use their special Attack power that lets them use adjacent friendly characters equipped objects, so that’ll give you three Perplexes to use on anything but Damage.

The Gigantas can retal twice if you first retal for free with a non-prime Giganta, then POWER to retal with Giganta prime and then you can attack with the first Giganta you originally sent to retal. Thug is there to add one more to the theme team and look cool with his sideways gun.

Rubble map bonus is there mainly when you lose map to add 3 more heavy objects to the map.
I never chose the map when I won, I always went to Flashpoint Flood.

Round 1 Secret Six +8 Vs Latvaria +3
The first match was against Eric Kauffman and his Latvarian +3 with God Doom , Franklin Von Doom, Nightbringer ring and Latvarian Engineer. I won map and we went to Flashpoint Flood. On turn one Giganta Prime walks to and picks up the Power Gem and then Sidesteps to drop it under Sky Tyrant and he powers to equip it then he gets TK’d up 6 squares by a Scarab. The other Scarab uses TK to move his Nightbringer Ring closer to the middle of the map.

His turn one is setting up Perplexing up God Doom and placing a wall in front of him to to block lines of fire from the Gamma Bomb to Doom. Turn 2 I TK Sky Tyrant up 6 then Outwit Franklins STOP click through the Gamma Bomb and sent Sky Tyrant out to Charge Flurry and KO the Engineer and Franklin. Scarab 2 TK’d the Reality Gem under The Commissioner and he powers to equip it and the Scarabs free action to copy the Reality gems and Perplex up Sky Tyrants Defense +2 and that’s my turn.

His turn 2 was Running Shot trying to hit Sky Tyrant missing and calling turn. Turn 3 the Scarabs Outwit Running Shot and Pulse and clear. He clears on turn 3. Turn 4 the Scarabs Outwit Dooms STOP click and Defense power and copy the Reality Gems to Perplex Sky Tyrant’s Attack +2 and he Charges and hits Doom winning the game. 300 – 0.

Round 2 Secret Six +8 Vs Justice League +8
Rob Gallagher was playing a +8 Justice League team with 3x Flashes, Fulcrum Abominus, Plastic Man, shifting Wonder Woman , Power Woman and Giganta prime, that can cross the map and steal your objects. I didn’t know this and I lost the map roll and he takes us to Wonder Woman’s Barn. His turn one he comes across the map and steals the Power Gem with Plastic Man. He changes to the Mailbox dropping the Gem allowing one of the Flashes to come up and snatch it up.

My turn 1 the Scarabs Outwit the Defense on the Flash and both take a shot to KO him. Sky Tyrant Charge/Flurry on Power Woman and misses both attacks and that’s turn. Turn 2 he retals killing the Commissioner and wounding Thug, then a Flash comes across and kills Sky Tyrant. Enough turns pass that the Gamma Bomb Blows up killing Gigangta prime, Plastic Man and the last Flash. The match ended with a close loss 300 – 200.

Round 3 Secret Six +8 Vs Animal +8
Austin Murray was playing Animals, Alyosha Kraven, Maggot x2, Hamurai, Titano,Wendigo,Gorilla Grodd, andCh’p. I won map and went to Flashpoint Flood. Turn one Giganta prime walks up and gets the Power Gem and drops it in Sky Tyrants square and he power equips it, then the Scarabs copy the Power Gem and destroy the Emotional Modifier. On his turn he copied Ch’ps TA, and free moved Gulyadkin to the Bomb and he rolls a 6, disarming it
but it stays on the map. He gets his team across the map except Titano ,Gulyakin and Wendigo. The Maggots kill Giganta and that’s his turn.

Next turn the Scarabs copy the Power Gem and Outwit Titano’s retal and one Maggots Senses. Sky Tyrant Outwits the other Maggot’s Senses and Charge/Flurries killing a Maggot and Gorilla Grodd, gaining 2 tokens. The Gigantas
retal. The best part was when Thug shot up Gulyadkin. It Ended 300 to 190.

Round 4 Secret Six +8 Vs X-Men +8
My brother Anthony was playing an X-Men Swap team that I believe ended up with the mutant formerly known as Apocalypse, Maggott, Dr. Moira, 2 Cable clones, Mimic Prime, WKO Pixie, and I forgot who else was on the map. I won map and made him resolve his swapping so he doesn’t bring out his Lockheeds. Turn 1 we set up and he disarms the Gamma bomb on his first roll with a Cable Hologram. Sky Tyrant Killed Maggot twice and got to bring out a Skinless Assassin and a PhD Ape. He killed Sky Tyrant and the Gigantas with Mimic and The artist formerly known
as Apocalypse. It was a slugfest I needed to win, 195 -170.

Top 8 Secret Six +8 VS Latveria +3
In round one we swore to meet again in Top 8 and we did. Eric played more defensively this time around but God Doom was still bested and lost to the Secret Six 300 – 0.

Top 4 Secret Six +8 VS X-Men +8
Anthony disarmed the Bomb again, won map roll and hid his Power Gem, since he won map he got to have his Lockheeds. On turn 2 he was able to steal the Power Gem with a Lockheed and caused chaos. It was a nail biter but I won and was able to advance.

Top 2 Secret Six +8 VS Animals +8
The final match to try and win The Cosmic Ghost Rider and sweet map was no easy one. Austin Murray and Alyosha’s Animals almost played exactly the same as our last match except we kept our mistakes to a minimum. In the end it was very close and won the Ghost Rider and map I wanted so badly. In the end the Gamma Bomb was very key to target characters to Outwit and slow down. Thug also made it so that opponents needed to KO 2 of my pieces to stop me from being able to Outwit PROTECTED and SAFEGUARD. Secret Six is a fun team and I’d definitely
