Tournament Report – Majestix Open Series Qualifier (Bakersfield, CA) – Aaron Cantu

by Aaron Cantu

The Majestix Open Series kicked off in March. The series is an incredibly cool set of events with the opportunity to win a cash prize at the end of the year! I missed the first big stop of the series but was lucky enough to attend one of the closest ROC events to home that there has been in a long time. The Majestix Series uses a unique format. It goes as follows:

Format - Swiss Rounds cut to Top 8
Format: 300pt ROC Age (Superman to current set legal; everything in-between except Star Trek ships)
-We are still using the standard Map List for ROC events
-Millennium Stone will bring out a 5pt bystander on turn 1 (we will be playing this way)
-Spells/Traps are NOT legal
-Horde Tokens will NOT be legal

Ban List (if it isn’t listed below and falls in ROC Age, it’s legal):
*Orange Power Battery
*Team Bases
*Felix Faust
*Copycat
*Jakeem Thunder
*Zombie Super Skrull
*Resurrection Man
*Juston Seyfert
*Morphing Jar
*Ophidian

This is the second time I have played in this format, the first time being the 2017 ROC U.S. Cup (read about it here). Being the winner of that event and missing the first event really led me to add a lot of pressure to myself. I had originally planned on running the same team from the ROC U.S. Cup with some small adjustments to account for The Mighty Thor release, but after watching the awesome coverage of the first event in Orange, CA I knew I had to make more major adjustments. There were so many amazing teams I hadn’t considered.
